Probabilistic Safety Assessment of WWER440 Reactors

Zoltan Kovacs

ISBN 978-3-319-08547-0

The aim of this book is to summarize probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) of nuclear power plants with WWER440 reactors and demonstrate that the plants are safe enough for producing energy even in light of the Fukushima accident. The book examines level 1 and 2 full power, low power and shutdown PSA, and summarizes the author's experience gained during the last 35 years in this area. It provides useful examples taken from PSA training courses the author has lectured and organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (2014).

Nuclear Power Operation, Safety and Environment

edited by P.V. Tsvetkov

Chapter 5 by Z. Kovacs: Low Power and Shutdown PSA for NPPs with WWER440 type reactors

ISBN 978-953-307-507-5

The book presents papers from selected experienced authors in the area of nuclear power plant operation, safety and impact on environment. The editor of the book is P.V. Tsvetkov from the department of Nuclear Engineering, Texas A&M University, USA. This book is one in the series of books on nuclear power published by InTech. The goal of the book is to bring nuclear power to the readers as one of the promising energy sources that has an unique potential to meet energy demand with minimized environmental impact, near-zero carbon footprint, and competitive economics via robust potential application. The book targets everyone as its potential readership groups - students, researchers and practitioners – who are interested to learn about nuclear power. (2011)

Reliability in Power Engineering

Frantisek Janicek, Zoltan Kovacs

ISBN 978-80-89402-12-0

The book is focused on system reliability analyses and PSA. The main objective is to provide guidelines how to construct fault trees and event trees, develop PSA models, use PSA software and quantify the PSA model. The book describes also the interpretation of the results from the reliability analysis and the risk assessment in the decision making process. It supports the risk made decision making. (Only in Slovak) (2009)

Reliability-Centered Maintenance of Components in Power Industry

Frantisek Janicek, Zoltan Kovacs

ISBN 80-89402-31-1

The book is written with the objective to collect and analyze methodology used in reliability-centered maintenance programs of components in power industry. Guidelines are provided for optimization of preventive maintenance activities with achievement high level of safety and reliability with the lowest level of investment. The historical background of the maintenance is also described from the early beginning until the present time. (Only in Slovak)(2010)
