Company history

RELKO Ltd is a group of engineers, applied scientists and consultants who are widely recognized for their problem solving capabilities in the field of safety of nuclear power plants equipped with WWER type reactors.

The company was founded in February 1993 with the objectives to perform safety analyses, to evaluate operational experiences and to provide consultations on the matters of plant safety. Major activities of current importance are probabilistic safety assessments (PSA), maintenance optimization, fire and flood risk analyses, high energy piping break analyses, external events analyses (seismic events, extreme meteorological conditions, man-made events, etc.) further development of accident management measures, drafting of safety requirements, standards and guides.

The team has gained experience with the plant safety within the comprehensive level 1 and level 2 probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) of the J. Bohunice V1, J. Bohunice V2 and Mochovce NPP. Our activities are extended also in the power engineering, the chemical industry and other potentially dangerous technologies. The overall aim in this area is to improve the scientific basis for understanding industrial accidents, leading to better risk assessment, management, prevention and mitigation.

RELKO Ltd has been involved in several international projects initiated to evaluate and improve the safety of the plants with WWER and other types of reactors. We have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to co-operate in this area with the foremost companies and institutes from USA, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Netherlands and Austria. There is also a closed co-operation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna. We are participating in the coordinated research projects and missions of IAEA. The RELKO team has lectured PSA training courses organized by IAEA. Such training courses were organized in Argonne National Laboratory (Chicago, IL, USA), Abdus Salaam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (Trieste, Italy), Malaysia, Vietnam, Algeria and Jordan to support experts from developing countries.

RELKO Ltd has very closed cooperation with the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava in education experts for nuclear and power engineering. In addition, there is also cooperation in research activities.
